Medialiitto – Paper delivery game
GAMES & TESTS
Starting point:
Medialiitto wanted to raise awareness about the night job of newspaper delivery. The goal was to attract potential employees, particularly those aged 18 to 30, to the field. The client desired a gamified and narrative approach that would encourage people to spend time engaging with it. The game aimed to highlight the positive aspects of a newspaper deliverer’s job: it is physically active and independent, and working at night leaves the days free for hobbies, studies, other jobs, or dreams.
Solution:
Our team conceptualized a comic book-style game where the objective is to deliver a package on time. The main character, Nina, unexpectedly receives an unusual task. During her shift, Nina encounters various challenges that require her to make choices. Some choices advance her progress, while others slow it down. In the background is Nina’s long-awaited dream, which depends on her catching the first bus in the morning. However, time is running out, and the realization of her dream hangs in the balance…
Multiple stories in the same game
The game was developed using a branching method, where each choice made during gameplay creates a new branch in the story. There are several alternative storylines and endings, which makes players want to return to the game. Characters, locations, modes of transport, and other elements of the story were brainstormed in a workshop with the client. Afterward, the comic was drawn and written step by step until it finally transitioned to technical production.
Nina’s work shift is filled with speed and surprising twists. The story cheerfully mixes fact and fiction: the events are even exaggeratedly fictional, but the comfort of the newspaper deliverer’s job is evident in the background and details.
How would you manage Nina’s shift? Go to the game here and give it a try!
